8. Oeste Houses

Casas Oeste

They received this name because they were located on the Western side of the Main Square between Carrera and Empedrada streets, and they were a block of residences, most likely of simple appearance and two stories high.  The houses were separated by a hall and most likely had perimeter wooden walls on stone bases. Large wooden doors on stone bases opened up towards the square.  Given their location, we can suppose that they belonged to wealthy people of old Panama City.

Today there are only the remains of the bases of the original columns.  This is one of the few buildings that are difficult to interpret; conserving it without affecting the archaeological remains is yet to be done.
