18. King’s Bridge

The King’s Bridge is a great masonry construction that is representative of colonial times.  It was oriented North-South and was used as an access route to the city.  It connected with the Royal Road, and crossed over the former Gallinero River, what is today the Abajo River.  It was built between 1619 and 1634.  Some historians state that before this time there was a wooden bridge and that an expert from Cartagena supervised the masonry work.  Its builder was the master builder Cristóbal de Armiñán.
